IBM has successfully connected and cooled two modular cryogenic systems as part of its effort to build scalable infrastructure for fault-tolerant quantum computers; the systems reached 4 Kelvin in 5 days and subsequently cooled below 15 millikelvin. IBM plans to use L-coupler technology to link multiple processors while targeting at least 1,000 programmable qubits by 2027, and aims to deploy its Quantum Starling system in 2029.
